my mom rocks

Happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there!

When my mom came to visit me in February, I took her to the climbing gym. I wanted her to see where I spend so much of my time and maybe try it so she wouldn't be so worried that something was going to happen to me. She did so well! And she's been asking me forever to put the pictures I took up so she can show her friends, so Happy Mother's Day, mom!

checking for safety
getting all tied in

all chalked up
having fun with chalk
first attempt
just like spiderman
a little intimidated by the competition
she keeps an eye on the competition
climbing like a pro
cruising up the wall
all climbed out
happy climbers

oh knitting, how I've missed you

I've been going through my pictures because I never delete anything and I have gagillabyte of images on my laptop. And I found some pictures of gifted presents that I never posted. So instead of taking pictures of new things, I will post old things.

hats for a baby head

These are two baby hats (umbilical hat pattern from SnB) that I made for my physical therapist. The yellow one is made from Rowan Handknit Cotton and the green one is made from Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran. She chose not to know the gender, so that's why I made two. I think that is a bold and exciting thing to do, to be surprised, and I think when I ever get around to having babies I will do the same thing, if only to piss off my family and all my friends who are attached to gender-specific baby gear. She turned out to be a girl, and she looks very cute in the pictures she has sent me. And I love giving baby hats in those little IKEA boxes. mwah mwah, IKEA.

lots of scarves!

And oh, the novelty yarn scarves for Christmas. First is Bryan's mom with a keyhole scarf made out of Lion Brand Fun Fur, then Bryan's sister with a drop stitch scarf made with a railroad-y ribbon yarn and Crystal Palace KidMerino with crystal beads in the fringe (technically I still haven't finished that one, sorry Cheryl! (damn those little beads)), and pretty much the same scarf but with Southwest Trading Company Melody with some silvery Kidsilk Haze and crystal beads in the fringe for my oldest friend Wendy.

a lovely day

The weather has been so wonderfully amazingly nice here for the last few days! I rode my bike to lab today for the first time in forever, and it was great. I stopped and took some pictures of some really really bright flowers in someone's yard. The yards in Berkeley are beautiful.

bright pink flowers

I also got to go on a lunch date with my friend Dave who I never see since he joined a lab that's waaaay up the hill from my lab. We had a super yummy lunch and made a recurring date for every other Wednesday.

Me and Dave!!

Also exciting - I have started knitting again! Soon I will post many pictures of knitted things. Or at least beginnings of knitted things.

Dork

This is my new favorite shirt. (And holy crap my bathroom mirror is gross.)

And this is how Anosha and I amused ourselves last Friday night. Liquid nitrogen is amazing - you should have heard that raquetball explode!

Edited to add:
Wait, now you can! This video is only 3 seconds long, and the raquetball breaks off camera (we were trying to break it ON the door), but if you listen close you can hear it breaking like glass! Dorks gone wild on a Friday night.
